Many people have an interest in the weather and the processes that cause it, which is why the National Meteorological Library and Archive is open to everyone.

From 1 October, the Library will be open to the public for longer; from Mondays to Thursdays, the library will now stay open until 1700.

What we hold

Our collection is one of the most comprehensive on meteorology anywhere in the world.

Library collection

The Library's collection includes books and reports, many of which are available for loan, as well as journals, data and images.

Archive collection

The Archive holds original meteorological data, weather reports and charts from the 1860s to the present day, and private weather diaries dating back to the late 18th century.

If you want to borrow library material you will need to become a member.

If you would like to visit the Archive, advance notice is essential to ensure staff will be available to assist you. Please bring proof of ID and address.

Ask us for help on accessing the information we hold.
